Moab, Utah

What a great day of scenery yesterday!  Traveling from Scipio, Ut., to Moab, I went up over a mountain range at 7800' at the top, which was sparsely treed with pines (kind of reminded me of Monte Lk area back home).  That was followed by a descent to about 6000' and across another plain.  Proceeding East, I approached some very interesting rock formations, quite similar to what we saw in Arizona.  There were numerous "salt mounds" that seemed to grow up out of the ground, in white, pink, greens.  These became larger and larger as I approached "The Arches National Park" near Moab, where the Colorado river runs past.  As I drove up through the park, there was an incredible array of breathtaking rock formations that were essentially giant sculptures carved out by Mother Nature, mostly reddish-brown sandstone, with pinks and whites.

The wind and rain has sculpted the stone over millions of years to the point of where hole are eroded right through, leaving enormous stone arches, hundreds of feet high and wide.  Quite amazing!  I spent a couple of hrs there, but could easily have spent a couple of days, but I'll be back.  I took a lot of pics, which I hope to translate into sculptures when I get home.  I'll try to get them onto this site, but if I can't, I'll put a few on Facebook and Instagram.

I was tempted to stay here another day for more exploring, but am antsy to get to Tucson, so will journey onto Flagstaff today, about 5 hrs away, at a level of 6900'.  I'm feeling the effects of the elevation here.  It definetly tires you out quicker.  So, one more nite on the road and then Tucson!  Sally and I were in Flagstaff last Spring, so am familiar with that neck of the woods.  Would love to hop over to Sedona, but will be back there later for sure for a few days.  The temp here yesterday was 27, so had to break-out the sandals and shorts!  Also need the air/con on.  Love it!  My body is feeling better already!

Cheers!
